Adjustments have been made to the dial calibration and RF if alignment to bring everything back into spec. I have restored this radio, yet have tried to maintain its outward original appearance. The adjustable selectivity function of the built in crystal filter works very good to help it lock in on a signal, and the phasing adjustment does a nice job of helping null interfering stations. These radios have an 8 tube chassis with continuous frequency coverage from 540 kilo hertz to 40 mega hertz .
The cabinet was disassembled and cleaned followed by compounding, polishing, waxing, and buffing so the hammertoe grey appearance is as shiny and smooth as it was the day it was built. The tone control has a low position that really makes am broadcast band music come through with a rich, deep tone only found on good tube type radios.
This offer includes the restored National NC98 receiver, the matching National speaker cabinet, and a bound copy of the factory instruction manual, alignment instructions, parts list, and SAM's photo fact service manual with schematic. The main and band spread tuning controls have been re strung, calibrated and operate smoothly with no slipping or hang ups. Tuner bearings have been lubricated, and all switches, knobs, and controls operate smoothly.
Internally, all paper and electrolytic capacitors have been replaced along with any out of tolerance resistors. All the tubes are good, having been checked on a precision electrolytic tube tester.
I have 30 years of experience repairing and restoring vintage electronics. This receiver is a great performer and sounds fantastic. It been polished and waxed and is in good condition with minimal scratches.
Two edge lit slide rule dials cover the 4 bands, with a separate band spread tuner calibrated especially for the ham bands. On the shortwave bands, my off fed dipole antenna helps it bring in a multitude of signals with ease.
Adjustable selectivity is a built in crystal filter with three degrees of selectivity and a phasing control to help null interfering signals.
