It is temperature controlled and temperature compensated and because it is so small it stabilizes within 10 seconds of power on. It only predicted where you hoped the receiver was tuned. This is a set of pieces that enables you to replace the r 390a's original, mechanical, weeder root frequency display with a counter driven lcd display.

The set of parts includes four PC boards, already assembled and tested, plus the necessary cables and mechanical parts needed to accomplish this retrofit. Gone is the need for the crystal calibrator. The modifications to the r 390a are easily reversible, in case you ever want to return the receiver to its original state. After that you can read what the r 390a is actually receiving as it warms up, and you can marvel at how well the Collins engineers designed the r 390a as it warms up quickly and drifts astoundingly little for a tube receiver designed in the 50s.
