Both the Palstar and drake receivers have excellent audio circuits that allow for wonderful sound if connected to proper speaker. Palstar offered the SP30 to complement its line of high end consumer receivers and it does make a noticeable difference when listening shortwave programming.

It was tested and operates perfectly with no distortion or buzzing. This can be used with the Palstar or drake receivers, but would require an adapter so that 1/8 plug work in drakes 4 input.

Some of the manufacturers did offer accessory speakers to improve rather thin sound coming from their communications equipment.
