The original top cover, with whip antenna, has been replaced by a solid aluminum cover. Note: you can not transmit through this, it is only used in a receive antenna circuit.

If the whip antenna is used it can be connected to input jack either directly on back or at some distance away via coaxial cable when an external used, MFJ-1020B functions as a pre-selector, filter and signal amplifier. The whip antenna has been relocated from top cover to rear panel. Size: 2 x5 6, plus telescopic whip antenna. Coax cable not included the MFJ-1020B requires an optional ac power adapter or a 9 volt battery.

Best receiving results can be obtained by connecting an external antenna via the rear panel input jack. Or use it as a tuned pre-amp with any user supplied receiving antenna such long wire loop not included. Includes four page instruction booklet with schematic. The original input and output jacks are rca phono type however this unit has had addition of so-239 uhf connectors permanently added to back panel.

A red led indicates power on. Front panel controls are gain, band select, tune and on off bypass. This includes vlf, am broadcast, all shortwave and hf amateur radio bands 160m to 10m. The MFJ-1020B receiving antenna filter pre-amplifier covers 300 khz to 30 mhz in five bands.
