Recommendation:

If you are considering building a homemade HBR-13C superheterodyne receiver, I recommend starting with a well-documented and tested design, such as one from the ARRL, and using high-quality components to ensure the best possible performance. Additionally, be sure to take your time during the building process and test each stage of the circuit to ensure everything is working properly before moving on to the next step. With patience and a little perseverance, you can build a radio that you will be proud to call your own.

Details:

This is the HBR-13C designed by Ted Crosby W6TC and published in QST May 1965. Coils can be wound to cover 80 through 10 meters. The magazine article and subsequent update articles are available for free from the American Radio Relay League QST Magazine archives. Builder is unknown but the construction magnificent.

The receiver is not working now but did work fine when I first acquired it. The radio features the super smooth and expensive Eddy stone main tuning vernier dial plus built in audio filtering. Since then, I pulled about 7 tubes to use in my own home built HBR-13. Eventually, I used it as a template to build my own HBR so its time move this one on.

It is a 13-tube dual conversion superheterodyne receiver design using plug in coils. One set of three coils are included.
