The original purpose was to chose one of four internal frequencies which would auto tune internally communicate with or more trucks. The original ard amplifiers ham commercial model's were auto tune.

The photographs show plate circuit and room to install vacuum variables etc. I'm not sure if these could be modified to auto tune but they are definitely capable of covering 2-30 MHz just like the originals with proper tank circuit modifications. The amps have a discrete control head that can be mounted away from amplifier and each of them is in blue panel rack as shown photos. They could easily be modified to make nice 1500 w amps with the addition of a few components in plate and grid circuits. Originally used by the dept.
