### **Cons of the Yaesu FT-65R**
1. **Limited Bandwidth**
The FT-65R is exclusively a 6-meter (50 MHz) radio, meaning it cannot be used for other bands like 2 meters (144 MHz) or HF. If you plan to operate on multiple bands, you would need to purchase additional radios.
2. **No Built-in Digital Modes**
While the FT-65R supports analog voice communication, it lacks built-in digital modes such as FT8, JT65, or PSK31. Users interested in digital communication would need to pair it with an external sound card or a separate digital-mode radio.
3. **Basic Display**
The radio features a simple analog meter and minimal digital display. Advanced features like a full-color LCD or touchscreen are not available, which may be a drawback for users who prefer modern interfaces.
4. **No Built-in GPS or APRS**
The FT-65R does not include GPS or Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRS) functionality. Users interested in tracking their location or participating in digital mapping would need to add these features separately.
5. **Limited Power Output**
The maximum power output is 5 watts, which is sufficient for mobile operation but may be less powerful than some dedicated mobile HF or VHF/UHF radios. However, 5 watts is typically adequate for 6-meter operation.
6. **No Built-in Band-Scan Function**
The radio does not have an automatic band-scan feature, which can be useful for quickly finding active frequencies. Users must manually tune through the band.
7. **No Built-in Noise Blanker or Automatic Gain Control (AGC) Adjustment**
While the FT-65R has a squelch function, it lacks advanced features like an automatic noise blanker or adjustable AGC settings, which can be helpful in noisy environments.
8. **Limited Connectivity Options**
The radio has a single 3.5mm audio jack for headphones or external speakers, and there are no USB or Bluetooth connections. This can be limiting for users who want to integrate the radio with modern devices.
9. **No Built-in DTMF or Tone Squelch**
The FT-65R does not support DTMF (Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency) or tone squelch, which are useful for accessing repeater systems or private networks. Users would need to rely on manual tuning or other methods to access these features.
10. **No Built-in Battery Monitoring**
The radio does not include a built-in battery monitor, so users must rely on external voltmeters or multometers to check their power supply status during mobile operation.

### **Conclusion**
The Yaesu FT-65R is an excellent choice for amateur radio operators who are primarily interested in the 6-meter band. Its compact size, mobile-friendly design, and strong performance make it ideal for vehicle installations and long-distance communication. The radio is user-friendly, affordable, and reliable, with a dedicated user base that provides ample support.
However, its limitations such as a single-band focus, lack of digital modes, and basic connectivity options may not suit users who require versatility or advanced features. If your primary goal is to explore the 6-meter band and enjoy its unique propagation characteristics, the FT-65R is a solid investment. For those interested in other bands or digital communication, additional radios or accessories would be necessary.

All controls work as they should including meter, power on light and channel dial. Somebody out there knows how to use this mobile but, everything works. So AM is working good. The case is in good condition with no dents or dings scrapes on.
On AM when keyed on, shows instant output and speaking into the mic very good light fluctuation. Myself I do not know quite how to operate this radio which shows multi frequencies on 4 delectable channels see pictures. Upper side band and lower there is no output until speaking into mic which the way it should be on at that time when mic, light shows with great fluctuation of lamp. AM works using a indicating dummy load lamp.
I will not ask a crazy price for this unit but fair TIM KE8EWW This radio is what could be vintage. Included is the mic and no power cord see pictures to ID 12vdc cleaned all controls.
